Most of you know by now that I have a man-made pond in the yard. Each year we used to take out the gold fish and bring them indoors, into a barrel in the basement. That all depended on having an expert fish catcher at home to do the job of netting the fast little critters before freeze up. Didn't happen this year, so I waited and worried until the melt in January to see...
There were 6 orange fish flitting about happily when the ice melted! But that's not all.
One more fish was with them, a minnow from a few years ago. OK, so I bought minnows from the bait shop and put 12 in the pond 2 years ago so they would eat the mosquitoes. Well, I ended up taking them out and releasing them in a pond in town. Except for this guy. He thinks he is a goldfish now, schooling around with them. Kind of hard to see, you have to look close, and he moves fast!
Now I am waiting for the ice to melt a second time to see if all 7 fish are there.
