Anna is ready to go to Vermont. She doesn't want her family to forget her. Anna likes to go for a ride. Here she is in the front of the house, there is a new window that is the bathroom. Anna likes to sit on the back porch too. The outdoor shower is still being used until the project is done. Anna does not know why everyone needs to be so clean. |
Here are Gary and Chris cutting the plywood for the floor. Anna does not like the noise of all the power tools, so she is glad to go with Suzanne to bring the garbage to the transfer station. She likes to stop at the Saturday Open House at the Corinth Academy on the way back, but there are always other dogs there so she stays on a leash and has to be very good. We had a little adventure in Vermont, without having to go out of our way at all. It came to us. To set the stage, we had been working all day Friday and Saturday on renovations. The highlight of the weekend seemed to be that I got to listen to Prairie Home Companion while I painted the window trim outdoors on a picnic table. Later on, we were done with dinner, it was getting dark, and Chris noticed something in the sky. It was a hot air balloon! Anna the dog came out and could not stop barking. We watched as it came closer over the hills and slipped between some trees up where the Mosenthols used to live (a new estate of several houses, some fields, a pool, a pond.) Of course, Gary says, let’s get in the car and go help! I stayed with Anna, because she would start barking again. Then Anna and I waited on the porch. From there we could see them zoom out in the Honda CRV. I reasoned that these people were probably visiting there and did not need any help or nosy neighbors popping over, or a crazy barking dog. (Chris’s later note: You can’t plan to land anywhere specific in a balloon, you go wherever the winds take you, so they clearly were not visiting.)
The balloon pilot and his 2 passengers are walking the balloon up the road to a good spot to take it down as the chase van, driven by his wife, arrives (thanks to our directions over the radio) Dan and I pull the balloon down into the field by the pond, and we all help to pack up the balloon. I almost fall into the pond. Once everything is packed up we head back to our house for drinks. The pilot, Brian, tells us stories of his many balloon expeditions. He makes all of them himself. The passengers were a couple (age 21) who met at Clark University, one lives in Hanover and one in Connecticut.
View of the pasture with small brown cows. This is the peaceful side of the house. In the front, the project goes on.... Our first replacement window is in! It is just a bit taller and narrower than the old ones. |
